Dorothea Wierer, the celebrated Italian biathlete, has announced her decision to extend her athletic career until the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. This revelation comes after a period of contemplation and amid swirling retirement rumors. In a recent online press conference, she shared that her choice to continue was bolstered by support from the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) as well as her team at Gruppo Fiamme Gialle.

Wierer boasts an impressive track record, having secured three individual World Championship titles, a team relay championship, and two overall Biathlon World Cup victories. Remarkably, she is one of only three athletes in history to conquer all seven biathlon race formats, alongside legends Martin Fourcade and Marie Dorin.

Reflecting on the past year, Wierer admitted it had been particularly tough for her, prompting a two-month break for rest and reflection. After engaging in discussions with her team, the Italian sports authorities, and her financial backers, she resolved to continue her training leading up to the Winter Olympics. With preparations underway, she emphasizes her commitment to maintaining peak performance in pursuit of Olympic success.
