Tandrevold Returns Home Due to Heart Problems

Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, Norway's biathlon star, is sidelined indefinitely due to heart rhythm issues. The 28-year-old athlete left the World Cup event in Kontiolahti to undergo further medical evaluations, as announced by the Norwegian Biathlon Association before the mass start race scheduled for this week.

"We are in contact with a cardiologist to discuss further actions," stated Aasne Fenne Hoksrud, the medical doctor for the Norwegian women's biathlon team. Tandrevold needs rest and recovery following episodes of increased heart rate.

During Saturday's sprint, she had to pause before the standing shoot due to heart issues but completed the race, finishing 32nd. Earlier in the week, she had reported feeling unwell after the individual race.

Although she expressed that she felt "very good" before leaving Kontiolahti, she mentioned to TV2, "It’s unfortunate to have another bad experience. I was a bit nervous and feared that I might face the same issue as in the individual race. It’s a bit annoying to realize that I can’t control it." She explained that her heart would race quickly, and she needed to regain her rhythm.

This is not the first time Tandrevold has faced heart issues; she missed the Beijing Olympics due to similar conditions during the 2021/22 winter season. Last season, she secured victories in the sprint World Cup, amassing a total of 24 World Cup wins in her career, including 20 with the relay team.
