Biathlon: Sweden Takes Bronze in Relay at Antholz Despite Early Penalty Round
Sweden's men's relay team achieved a commendable third place in the high-altitude relay at Antholz, showcasing resilience during a difficult start.
Despite a challenging beginning where Viktor Brandt accumulated penalty rounds due to shooting errors, the Swedish team persevered, demonstrating impressive teamwork and skill.
Landslagstränaren, Johannes Lukas, commented on their performance: "We have achieved a podium finish in every relay now, something that hasn't happened in my last ten years with the team."
The turning point came mainly from Martin Ponsiluoma and Sebastian Samuelsson, who delivered outstanding final legs to secure the bronze. Samuelsson expressed his satisfaction with the outcome: "It's fantastic to shoot clean in two consecutive relays. It's great for boosting confidence."
The competition was intense, particularly on the final lap where Samuelsson found himself in a close sprint against Norway's Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen. Though he ultimately came up short in the finish, the team's overall performance and ability to bounce back from a slow start was commendable.
France dominated the event, taking home gold with a dominant 43-second lead over Norway, while Sweden celebrated another strong showing as they continue to make their mark in international biathlon competitions.
