SVT Expert Mona Brorsson: They Should Get a Chance at the Biathlon World Championships

Originally published in SVT Sport on February 02, 2025

SVT’s expert Mona Brorsson has provided her recommendation regarding the final selections for the Swedish biathlon (skidskytte) team before the World Championships. Both Anna-Karin Heijdenberg and Johanna Skottheim have impressed during the European Championships, with Heijdenberg winning three medals including a gold, and Skottheim making an impact in the relay and earning World Cup podium finishes.

Brorsson explained that if she were in the coach’s shoes, she would designate two reserves on the women’s side – Johanna Skottheim as a relay reserve and Anna-Karin Heijdenberg as a reserve for the individual races. However, if only one reserve spot were to be chosen, Heijdenberg would be the definitive choice. According to Brorsson, coach Johannes Lukas now has some serious considerations to make to ensure he forms the best possible team.

The Biathlon World Championships are set to begin on February 12 and will be broadcast live on SVT. The complete team has been announced with notable names on both the women’s and men’s squads, underscoring Sweden’s strong presence in the sport.

This expert insight not only highlights the competitive nature of selection for international biathlon events, but also reflects the high level of scrutiny and strategy involved in assembling a world-class team.
