Norwegian biathlete Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen won the opening leg of the relay, setting the stage for a commanding performance by the Norwegian team at the European Championships in biathlon on Sunday. The men’s relay team—comprising Sjåstad Christiansen, Sverre Aspenes, Sivert Guttorm Bakken, and Isak Frey—managed to only use a single extra shot over the course of eight shooting bouts, which proved crucial on their way to a rare and crushing victory.
The German team finished nearly two and a half minutes behind the Norwegians, taking the silver medal, while the women’s relay, contested over a 4 x 6 kilometer course, saw the Norwegian team finishing in seventh place. The women’s squad, which included Juni Arnekleiv, Siri Skar, Karoline Erdal, and Marthe Kråkstad Johansen, could not mount the same level of performance.
