Single-Mixed Biathlon World Championships: Shooting Costs Hauser/Eder a Medal

At the Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide, Austria’s Lisa Hauser and Simon Eder competed in the single-mixed event. The pair were on track for a medal as they moved up the rankings until errors at the shooting range derailed their performance.

Hauser, who delivered an impressive skiing performance – being the second fastest in the first round and only seven seconds slower than the best in the second round despite a penalty – lost her chance when she had six follow-up shots and ended up with an extra penalty round on her final shooting bout. Even a perfect shooting performance from teammate Eder could not salvage the situation, as he finished his leg with no follow-up shots but the damage was already done.

In the final standings, gold went to title defenders from France, with Norway and Germany close behind. Both athletes expressed disappointment after the race, with Hauser acknowledging the need to perform better at the shooting range in upcoming races, where she is slated to compete in the relay and mass start events later in the week.
