Biathlon: Sebastian Samuelsson Dominates in Sprint at Idre

Sebastian Samuelsson avenged his previous performance by crushing the biathlon sprint in Idre.

"World-class performance," said SVT commentator Ola Bränholm.

"I did my best today. I couldn't push hard yesterday," Samuelsson said after his fifth-place finish in the short distance race the day before. However, it seemed all went well for the 27-year-old today in Idre. Samuelsson showed a commanding performance from start to finish, finishing nearly a minute ahead of the second place, Jesper Nelin, who was the top Swedish in yesterday's race.

"A statement," noted SVT expert Björn Ferry.

The first shooting round resulted in five hits, and halfway through the race, he had a remarkable lead of 59 seconds to the closest pursuer. Despite a miss in his second shooting round, Samuelsson's lead was unassailable.

"Good race today, very pleased with it, felt a lot of speed in the legs. Nine hits is really competitive internationally too," Samuelsson commented.

Martin Ponsiluoma faced difficulties on the shooting range, scoring four misses. Nonetheless, this was enough for a fourth place finish, but he finished almost two minutes behind Samuelsson. The third position went to Rene Zahkna from Estonia.
