Skidskytte: Sara Andersson Wins Silver at Junior World Championships
Today, Sara Andersson demonstrated her class in the women's sprint event, following up her previous year’s gold medal win at the European Championships.
With only one missed shot, she clinched a silver medal during the Junior World Championships at home in Östersund.
"I am very happy," she stated to SVT.
At the first shooting stage, the 22-year-old from Mora had a lead of seven seconds over Austrian Anna Andexer. Thanks to her flawless shooting, she also had the chance to secure a medal in the 7.5-kilometer sprint event for older juniors.
"This is the downside of starting early, but it was nice to be able to run my own race," she commented to SVT.
By the second shooting stage, Andexer had taken the lead by three seconds, although both missed a shot.
"I think it was a good race. I am very satisfied with my shooting at 90%. It was heavy going, so it felt like I wasn’t skiing very fast, but I was quite strong today."
Other competitors continued to cross the finish line after her, securing her the well-deserved silver medal, marking Sweden's first medal at the Junior World Championships on home turf in Östersund.
