A Heartfelt Farewell to Matthias Dorfer
German ski star Matthias Dorfer has announced his retirement from professional biathlon, prompting an emotional response from fellow athlete Franziska Preuß.
In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Preuß expressed her best wishes for Dorfer’s future, saying, "Dear Matthias, I wish you all the best for the upcoming times, and I hope you can gather many exciting new experiences!" She also reflected on their relationship, noting, "I am glad that through our shared time in biathlon, a wonderful friendship has developed that extends far beyond the sport."
Celebrating Dorfer's Achievements
The German Ski Association also celebrated Dorfer’s career, stating, "Career ending in Altenberg. Congratulations on your long sports career and a strong finale here at the German Championships. Here’s to everything that is yet to come."
At the finish area in Altenberg, teammates welcomed Dorfer with confetti cannons, marking the end of his impressive career. Preuß, visibly moved, watched as he concluded his final race.
During his time in biathlon, Dorfer competed in the World Cup circuit four times, making his debut in 2016. He dedicated the majority of his career to the national circuit and the IBU Cup, leaving a lasting legacy in the sport.
