Preuß and Nawrath as Germany's Second Biathlon Duo in Schalke
The teams for the mixed event at the World Team Challenge in Schalke, representing Germany, have been announced. After eight years, the aim is to secure a home win once again.
Franziska Preuß and Philipp Nawrath are set to compete as Germany's second biathlon duo at the traditional World Team Challenge in Schalke Arena. This was announced by the German Ski Association (DSV) on Tuesday. Joining the experienced pair in this showcase event on December 28th, in Gelsenkirchen, are Vanessa Voigt and Justus Strelow, who were nominated back in September.
The DSV duos are targeting their first home win in eight years, as it was last achieved by Vanessa Hinz and Simon Schempp in 2016. "This is not just an experience for the audience, but also for us athletes. That's why I agreed to participate this year," said Preuß. She aims to compete for a podium finish alongside Philipp. Nawrath added that it is indeed "high time" for a German triumph again.
Since its inception in 2002, this world’s most attended biathlon event has become a season highlight for ski racers. Following the new year, the German ski hunters will head into two home World Cups in Oberhof (January 9-12) and Ruhpolding (January 15-19).
