Biathlon: Ponsiluoma Untroubled About His Shooting: 'What We Have Done Is Incredibly Good'
Originally published in SVT Sport on February 10, 2025
Martin Ponsiluoma has experienced some shaking on the shooting range this season. Although his skiing has at times been superb, his shooting results have been hampered by inconsistency. At the start of the season, his prone shooting was particularly unstable; however, following the Christmas period, he has gradually found a better rhythm, and he now feels very confident.
Ponsiluoma explained that while his lying (prone) shooting was very shaky in the beginning, he has steadily improved and now enjoys a good feeling for his performance. He also mentioned that his standing shooting isn’t a major worry, although he sometimes overthinks, which can lead to a few extra misses.
A look at the statistics shows that his overall shooting percentage has dropped compared to previous seasons – last season he recorded about 79% (with prone shooting at 77%), but so far this season he is at 72%, with a particularly low 69% in prone shooting. Despite these figures, Ponsiluoma remains convinced that his recent progress is a positive sign heading into the World Championships.
