"My entire body is basically poisoned" - Season over for biathlon ace

Biathlete Anna Gandler is ending her season earlier than planned. A persistent flu-like illness is the main reason, as the 24-year-old revealed in an interview with Kleine Zeitung.

Gandler explained, "One of the biggest issues was sleeping because my body could never truly regenerate. I’ve been dealing with this since June."

Although she feels somewhat fit again, her doctors have imposed a complete ban on sports to prevent further complications from her illness.

“I shed a few tears because it wasn’t a pleasant time,” Gandler reflected. “But I’ve come to terms with this lack of activity in the last few days. I need to take it easy, drink a lot, limit sugar intake, and follow a gluten-free diet.”

Her best result this winter was a sixth place in the individual race in Ruhpolding. However, she remained optimistic, pointing out that other athletes have also had to end their seasons early but bounced back with spectacular seasons afterward.
