Martin Ponsiluoma displayed incredible speed during the first lap of the sprint, clocking in with a time that was more than 10 seconds faster than his nearest competitor by the first shooting round. However, disaster struck during the shooting phase, where he missed four out of five targets in the prone position.

Jean-Marc Chabloz, his shooting coach, expressed his disbelief, stating, "It's worse than a nightmare. It’s incomprehensible how he could shoot so poorly after being reliable throughout the fall season."

Ponsiluoma, who lagged more than a minute behind after serving his penalty laps, continued to struggle, missing two more shots during the standing round. He himself reflected on the mishap, saying, “I feel good, yet I keep missing. I need to go back and review what went wrong."

Results for the sprint at Le Grand Bornand: 1) Martin Uldal, Norway, 23:13.5 (0 misses) 2) Johannes Thingnes Bö, Norway, +1.4 (1 miss) 3) Sebastian Samuelsson, Sweden, +10.8 (1 miss)

Additionally, Jesper Nelin finished 18th, over a minute behind the leader, with a total of 2 misses.

As the biathlon season progresses, Ponsiluoma will need to address his shooting technique to recover from this setback as he prepares for upcoming competitions.
