Thrilling Biathlon World Championships Ahead

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has officially announced the hosts for the 2028 and 2029 Biathlon World Championships, and fans of the sport have much to celebrate. The championships will take place at two venues steeped in history and excitement.

Hochfilzen, an Austrian town renowned for its stunning landscapes and world-class facilities, will welcome the championship in 2028. This location is a staple on the World Cup circuit and has been a favorite among competitors since its renovations prior to the 2017 World Championships.

In 2029, biathlon enthusiasts will have their sights set on Oslo's iconic Holmenkollen Ski Arena. Known for regularly hosting World Cup finals, Holmenkollen will showcase the sport’s elite athletes from March 21 to 23, 2025, in the forthcoming season. Previously, the venue also orchestrated the World Championships in 2016, adding to its rich legacy.

IBU President Olle Dahlin praised the selection of Hochfilzen and Oslo-Holmenkollen, emphasizing their status as world-class venues that promise to deliver thrilling and unforgettable competitions in 2028 and 2029.

Kontiolahti’s Bid Falls Short

Despite its aspirations, Kontiolahti, Finland, will not be hosting a World Championship this time. The Finnish venue will, however, kick off the World Cup season on November 30.

Looking ahead, the next Biathlon World Championships will unfold in February in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Mark your calendars for 2027, when Estonia's Otepää will host the championships, while 2026 will see no championships held due to the Olympic Winter Games.
