Biathlon: Justus Strelow - "The private Strelow is taking a break until April"

Justus Strelow is gearing up for the World Cup in Kontiolahti with the German biathlon team. In this interview, the 27-year-old reflects on his rigorous summer training and the tough competition for World Cup spots. He shares insights into what physical challenges he faced during his training, including intense mountain sprints and lactate tests on a treadmill.

Strelow on Physical Challenges: "Especially intense sessions, like 30x30 on the mountain - that's when you're going all out for 30 seconds followed by a 30-second break, repeated 13 times, for three rounds. That really hurts."

Shooting Skills: Strelow is recognized for his shooting accuracy, having had impressive performance last season. He is focusing on maintaining that level while also striving to break into the top 15 in the overall standings this season, and gaining some podium finishes.

Strelow detailed his approach to balancing between shooting and running training, emphasizing that shooting practice is completely integrated with physical exertion to ensure it reflects competition conditions.

Regarding his personal life, he mentions: "My private self is on break until April. What this looks like? I just wake up, have breakfast at the hotel, work out, go back for lunch, train some more, attend to physiotherapy, have a quick phone chat with my wife, and hit the bed."

Future Aspirations: He emphasizes that while he enjoys the training, especially the craftsmanship involved in fixing and building things at home, his current focus is on biathlon and preparation for the upcoming challenges in the World Cup circuit.
