Injury Update: Ingrid Tandrevold Faces Recovery After Fractured Hand
Originally published in Eurosport on July 09, 2024
Ingrid Tandrevold is facing a setback after sustaining a fracture in her right hand during the recent Lofoten Skyrace. The incident prompted immediate concern for the athlete, who expressed a feeling of something being amiss with her hand, a concern that was later confirmed by medical examinations.
Currently, Tandrevold's hand is in a cast, and she is uncertain about the duration of her recovery. In a recent press release, she shared her determination, stating, "Now I will train alternatively and creatively going forward."
Team doctor Aasne Fenne Hoksrud provided some reassuring news, noting that the fracture is uncomplicated and located in a favorable position, which should ease the healing process compared to a fracture in the wrist area. According to Hoksrud, Tandrevold will need to wear the cast for at least three weeks, followed by a support splint for several more weeks.
The timeline indicates that it may take four to five weeks before she can begin to put weight on her hand again, which means adjustments to her planned summer training regimen will be necessary. Nevertheless, the doctor remains optimistic, believing that Tandrevold will come out of this challenge even stronger than before.
