German Sensation: Young Talent Claims First World Cup Victory
Selina Grotian, a 20-year-old biathlete, has become a sensation, clinching her first individual World Cup victory in Le Grand Bornand, France. Her performance was outstanding, as she hit 19 out of 20 targets during the race.
Despite being behind fellow German competitor Franziska Preuss after the last shooting, Grotian made a remarkable comeback, passing Preuss during the last lap and finishing alone at the finish line.
This victory marks a significant breakthrough for Grotian, who had never stood on the podium at this level before, although she had previously excelled at the junior level, becoming junior world champion five times. Preuss finished second, while Paulína Fialková secured third place after Jeanne Richard faltered in the final stretch.
For the Norwegian athletes, the race was challenging. Maren Hjelmeset Kirkeeide was in contention for victory before the final shooting but faltered, ending up in 19th place after three penalty laps. Ida Lien also struggled, missing shots in both standing series, ultimately finishing in 16th place.
