German Frustration After Biathlon Disaster
Following the disappointing results at the shortened individual race in Kontiolahti, German men's coach Uros Velepec expressed his discontent. "I can't say it was the worst day in my coaching career; I've had worse days," Velepec said after the team's debacle. He regretted that none of the six athletes managed to shoot accurately, leading to a dismal performance.
Philipp Nawrath placed 22nd as the best German competitor, while Danilo Riethmüller and Philipp Horn gathered only a few World Cup points. "The running performance was not at the highest level; compared to Norway and France, we are not competitive," lamented Velepec. "When shooting goes wrong as well, it creates a problem."
He added that many of his biathletes felt tired, stressing the importance of proper recovery ahead of the sprint race on Friday. "They need to rest; that's key," he concluded.
