A Rising Star in Biathlon
German biathlete Johanna Puff is passionately preparing for the upcoming World Cup season, as she aims to establish herself as a formidable competitor. At just 22 years old, she has set her sights firmly on securing a spot in this prestigious event.
Johanna Puff is poised to shine in the Biathlon World Cup.
Puff has recently completed her training with the Federal Police and underwent a rigorous summer preparation program. She is particularly excited about the season opener on November 30 in Kontiolahti, Finland. "I'm fighting for a spot in the World Cup," she stated in an interview with the International Biathlon Union (IBU), underscoring her determination in the face of fierce competition from fellow German athletes.
Recent Success at the City Biathlon
Her recent performance at the City Biathlon in Dresden, where she secured second place behind reigning overall World Cup champion Lisa Vittozzi, has bolstered her confidence. "This is a significant step in my preparation. There is no better training than competing. You can't replicate the atmosphere with fans during practice. Now, it’s crucial to continue improving and gearing up for winter," she remarked.
In the weeks ahead, Johanna will head to France for a three-week training camp, before returning to Oberhof to finalize her training before the qualification races, set to take place in early November in Vuokatti, Finland.
Targeting Improvement in Shooting
Until then, her focus is on improving her shooting skills. "I've been concentrating on shooting faster. Training alongside my colleagues at the Federal Police has been beneficial, and I’ve also enhanced my upper body strength," she explained during her interview.
Puff had an impressive previous season, making her World Cup debut, winning an event in the IBU Cup, and participating in her first Biathlon World Championship in Nove Mesto. Her determination and recent successes indicate that she is ready to make a significant impact this winter.
