France’s Biathlon Men Make a Bet with Their Coach
The French men's biathlon team was close to perfect shooting in the recent relay competition. They had a clear motivation - a bet with their shooting coach, Jean-Pierre Amat, a former sports shooter with Olympic gold and bronze medals from the 1996 Atlanta games.
No team has ever completed a biathlon relay without using extra shots. Before Emilien Jacquelin's final shooting round, the French team aimed to be the first. However, Jacquelin missed two shots in the standing position but nevertheless guided his team to victory as their only two extra shots across eight shooters. In contrast, the Swedish team, which secured third place, utilized ten spare shots in their effort.
