A peculiar situation arose when Sturla Holm Lægreid passed Johannes Thingnes Bø in the overall standings, yet the organizers neglected an important detail during the award ceremony.
Lægreid was supposed to receive the yellow jersey, symbolizing his lead in the World Cup standings, after finishing second in the sprint event, surpassing Thingnes Bø, who ended up in ninth place. However, the jersey remained in the pocket of the race director post-ceremony.
After Norway's relay team earned their second place, Lægreid was finally awarded his jersey, although he expressed awareness that the chaos surrounding Tarjei Bø's farewell overshadowed his achievement.
"We forgot it in the midst of the commotion," admitted Borut Nunar, the race director, who took responsibility for the oversight. Lægreid noted that he received an apology, but it was a bittersweet moment as he reflected on the day dedicated to his teammate Tarjei.
During the relay race, the French team secured their fourth victory of the season, reinforcing their status as strong contenders for victory in the upcoming World Championships. Both Sturla Holm Lægreid and Johannes Thingnes Bø have acknowledged the need for improved performance as they prepare for the championship.
As Lægreid considers the implications of leading the World Cup, he reflects on the heightened pressure and expectations that come with it. "I feel like we are number one inside, but clearly, we aren't the best this year. We must accept that France has outperformed us in the relays."
With further competitions ahead, Norway seeks to regain its former glory against a resurgent French team, while Lægreid’s path remains illuminated by his recent achievements on the track.
