Campbell Wright, the 22-year-old New Zealand-born biathlete, has once again turned heads with a stunning performance at the World Championships. In a rapid breakthrough, he claimed two consecutive silver medals – initially in Saturday’s sprint event, followed by the pursuit start on Sunday.

During the final shooting stage, where every shot is critical, Wright was visibly shocked by his own composure. “How can you not be happy when you shoot clean? I saw Johannes doing it – he’s the best ever. I told myself, ‘don’t be an idiot and miss three shots; don’t look like a clown. Just get your shots in!’” he recalled.

Despite an impressive final surge and only one miss, Wright couldn’t catch up to the gold medalist, Johannes Thingnes Bø, finishing 8.6 seconds behind. “I was so tired, I don’t think I had anything left to give,” he admitted. SVT Sport expert Mona Brorsson was equally taken aback by his performance, noting that she had initially written him off after the sprint.

Reflecting on his unexpected success, Wright mentioned that if he had known how well he would perform, he could have written a book about it. His breakthrough not only marks a personal achievement but also signals his rising status on the international biathlon scene.
