Bö Unleashed – Extended World Championship Record

At the 2025 Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide, Norwegian superstar Johannes Thingnes Bö once again demonstrated his dominance. In the sprint, he opened his pursuit by leaving the shooting range as the first of the 60 starters and built a commanding lead. With a mix of fast skiing and a few shooting errors by rivals, Bö maintained his advantage throughout the race.

Nearly 24 hours after his sprint victory, Bö added another world championship title in the pursuit event – his 22nd overall – becoming the most successful biathlete in World Championship history. American Campbell Wright, who had also impressed in the sprint by managing his errors well, secured the silver medal. He finished the pursuit at a pace that confirmed his previous performance was no fluke, managing only one shooting error.

In contrast, the German team had a disappointing day. Philipp Nawrath, despite starting eighth best, fell back dramatically after recording multiple shooting mistakes. Other German athletes, including Philipp Horn, Justus Strelow and Danilo Riethmüller, could not mount a challenge and finished well behind the leaders. Post-race, Horn acknowledged the need for better concentration at the range, while DSV sports director Felix Bitterling admitted that the error count had been a major issue for the team.

Bö’s race was a study in controlled aggression. He took his time at the range on the second shooting bout, hitting all five targets to further secure his lead over close competitors like Campbell Wright and Italian Tommaso Giacomel. Despite a late surge by Wright, Bö’s margin proved insurmountable, cementing his status as a record-breaking champion in biathlon history.
