The Men's Relay – Can It Break the Curse?
On Saturday, the German men’s relay team will compete at the Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide. The German quartet, which has gone through a long period without a medal, is determined to finally step onto the podium.
Starting at 15:05, the race will cover a 4x7.5 kilometer relay, with Philipp Nawrath, Danilo Riethmüller, Johannes Kühn, and Philipp Horn (the anchor) representing Germany.
The article also provides details on how to follow the event live: on TV via ARD and Eurosport, through live streams on ARD, Joyn, and DAZN, and with a live ticker available on SPORT1.
Surprisingly, Justus Strelow—who has twice won bronze in the mixed relay and previously started the men’s relay on a leading position—was not selected for the team.
The German men’s relay team has not medaled since the bronze in Antholz in 2020, and last year they only managed a fourth place finish at Nove Mesto. In this World Cup season, they have only reached the podium once in four races, while France consistently clinched the relays, breaking the longstanding Norwegian dominance.
For the overall evaluation of the men’s performance this season, this relay race is seen as "incredibly important," as stated by Philipp Horn, who admitted that their performance remains far from expectations.
