The Biathlon World Championships are set to take place in Hochfilzen, Austria, in 2028, and Oslo, Norway, in 2029. This exciting announcement was made during the Congress of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) held in Belgrade.
Hochfilzen, which has previously hosted the championships in 1978, 2005, and 2017, will mark its fourth time as the host city. The last championship held there in 2017 was historic for German biathlete Laura Dahlmeier, who won five gold medals and one silver out of six competitions, cementing her legacy in biathlon history.
Oslo will also play host to the World Championships for the fourth time, having previously held the event in 1986, 2000, and 2016. At Holmenkollen, Dahlmeier once again shined, winning a gold and silver medal alongside three bronze medals during those competitions.
Before both of these exciting events, the next World Championships will take place in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, in 2025, followed by Otepää, Estonia, in 2027. Don't forget, the 2026 Winter Olympic Games are set to be held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo!
