Originally published in Sportschau on February 06, 2025
The Biathlon World Championship in Lenzerheide will be held from February 11 to 23, 2025, in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Hosted at the Roland Arena – a venue that already staged a Biathlon World Cup race in December 2023 and previously regular IBU Cup and junior events – the championship marks the second time since the 1985 women’s events that the titles will be contested in Switzerland.
The competition will feature twelve different race formats. It will kick off with the mixed relay and conclude with the mass start events. In between, fans will see sprints, pursuits, individual races, along with single-mixed relays and traditional team relays. A detailed schedule is provided, with events broadcast via live tickers and on TV or livestream during the latter stages.
The article also reviews past championships, noting that the 2024 event in Nové Město showcased dominant performances from countries such as France and Norway, with stars like Johannes Thingnes Bø and Sturla Holm Laegreid taking multiple titles among the men, and notable wins from Julia Simon and Justine Braisaz-Bouchet on the women’s side. It highlights that Johannes Thingnes Bø is looking to add to his record, potentially capturing his 20th world title during his final season before retirement.
Regarding team selections, the German squad for the men includes Philipp Horn, Johannes Kühn, Philipp Nawrath, Danilo Riethmüller, and Justus Strelow. For the women, with adjustments due to Hettich-Walz’s pregnancy and Vanessa Voigt’s season-ending health issues, the representatives are Selina Grotian, Franziska Preuß, Johanna Puff, Sophia Schneider, and Julia Tannheimer.
Fans can follow the entire championship via Sportschau’s extensive coverage – including live tickers, detailed race reports, and highlight videos, with additional live broadcasts on ARD and ZDF during the later rounds.
