Biathlon World Championships: Another Major Setback for Superstar

At this year’s Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide, Italy’s top biathlete Dorothea Wierer has suffered another blow. Wierer, who showed promise in the sprint race where she finished 21st, was poised to enter the pursuit with just a one minute and ten seconds deficit. However, a strong cold forced her to miss the start of the pursuit race, thereby dashing her medal hopes.

The disappointing news comes on the heels of several days in which the 34-year-old had been visibly under the weather. After a rest day on Monday, her team was set to continue the competition on Tuesday with a 15 km individual race. The championship, running from February 12th to 23rd in Lenzerheide, continues to present tough challenges for the competitors.

This setback for Wierer is a stark reminder of how unforeseen health issues can dramatically impact performance at the highest levels of the sport.
