Will Franziska Preuß take the next step towards winning the overall World Cup? In the Czech Republic, Nove Mesto will host the women's sprint on Friday at 18:25 (CET), which can be followed on SPORT1 LIVE TICKER.

Preuß, who presented herself strongly at the World Championships in Lenzerheide, where she won a total of four medals, holds a lead of 92 points over her closest rival, Lou Jeanmonnot, in the overall standings.

The 30-year-old also leads the sprint standings, having already won the sprint in Kontiolahti this season and most recently a silver medal at the World Championships.

Besides Jeanmonnot, Elvira Öberg is Preuß's biggest contender. The Swede occupies third place in the overall World Cup and claimed the mass start at the World Championships.

With Julia Simon and Justine Braisaz-Bouchet (who won gold in the sprint at the World Championships) also in strong form, they pose additional threats to Preuß.

Biathlon Women: The German Team

In addition to Preuß, the German team will feature Selina Grotian, Sophia Schneider, Julia Tannheimer, Johanna Puff, and Marlene Fichtner in the race.

Puff and Fichtner are expected to gain valuable experience at the highest competitive level, according to DSV sports director Felix Bitterling.

Preuß, Grotian, Schneider, and Tannheimer are the four German athletes who previously formed the relay team at the World Championships.
