Dorothea Wierer is contemplating a significant milestone in her biathlon career, envisioning her final competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics in her home country, Italy. After announcing in May that she would extend her career, Wierer now sees the 2026 Games as the perfect conclusion to her impressive journey, during which she claimed the Overall World Cup title twice.
In an interview with Fondo Italia, she expressed her excitement, stating, "I’m looking forward to competing at home for the last time, enjoying the event, and working hard to achieve the best possible result." However, she also mentioned, "Once it’s over, I'm also looking forward to doing something different," hinting at future endeavors beyond biathlon. While she hasn’t made a final decision, Wierer is eager to seize the chance to compete in Antholz, where the biathlon events will be held in 2026. Additionally, she remains open to the possibility of completing the 2025/26 season if circumstances allow.
Wierer also took on a different role during the Paris Summer Olympics, serving as a reporter for Eurosport. Reflecting on her experience, she said, "It was exhausting but beautiful. The difference between the Summer and Winter Olympics shocked me," highlighting the vast scale of the event.
As she looks ahead, Wierer is fully focused on her training and preparations for the upcoming season, with her first competition scheduled for November 30 in Kontiolahti, Finland.
