Superstar Injured in a Peculiar Way
Biathlon star Johannes Thingnes Bö speaks about his performance decline at the start of the last season. The reason is rather bizarre.

When Johannes Thingnes Bö steps onto the track, competitors often settle for second place. He remains a favorite for the upcoming biathlon season, following his overall World Cup victory last year.

Just ahead of the World Cup kickoff on Saturday in Kontiolahti, Finland (starting at 1:15 PM GMT), the biathlon dominator revealed why he slightly flubbed the start of the season last year. "I had an arm wrestling duel with Tarjei and his sponsor on Saturday. Everything was fine on Sunday, but in the week that followed, my arm didn’t feel good. I couldn’t train as I normally would leading up to the World Cup start," he said on the Extrarunde podcast.

Bö Experiences Performance Decline at World Cup Start
He felt weaker than usual because he couldn’t train his upper body and had to rest his arm. "The combination was not ideal; Östersund is a very demanding course," Bö continued in the podcast. Thus, the Norwegian had to concede to the two Germans, Roman Rees and Justus Strelow, in the opening race over 20 km in Östersund, Sweden.

However, this performance decline was short-lived. Bö quickly showcased his exceptional talent again at the next races in Hochfilzen, winning both the sprint and pursuit races.

This year, although Bö opted out of an arm wrestling duel, his form during training in preparation for the season was less than stellar.

Weaknesses in Biathlon Preparation
He displayed unusual weaknesses in the final preparatory races near Lillehammer, falling behind rivals.

Biathlon fans will be eager to see how the superstar performs during the kickoff.
