Biathlon: Star Denied Podium – Audience Shocked

Published today at 16:03

Jeanne Richard and the entire French audience were expecting a podium finish.
But instead, they were left in shock.

Slovak Paulina Bátovská Fialková overtook Richard right at the finish line, securing third place.
The mass start in Le Grand Bornand ended dramatically. Jeanne Richard looked set to clinch third after the two Germans, Selina Grotian and Franziska Preuss.
But as they approached the finish, Bátovská Fialková caught up to and surpassed Richard, shocking the audience into silence.
TV footage suggested that Richard was not prepared for the passing competitor.

– Can you even do that!?, exclaimed SVT expert Mona Brorsson during the broadcast.

Afterward, Brorsson elaborated on her thoughts: – I thought she had it. But (Fialková) is taking her time, and the audience's shock...

It could be that the audience shouted so much that she didn’t hear, but if so, that’s bad coaching. They need to tell Jeanne Richard not to stop skiing.
