Biathlon Star: "I've Been Stabbed in the Back!"
Vetle Sjästad Christiansen, a Norwegian biathlete, reacts with heavy criticism toward the federation after being left off the roster for the upcoming World Cup in Oslo at Holmenkollen.
In an interview with TV2, he expresses feelings of betrayal, stating, "I feel like I've been stabbed in the back by the federation." He criticizes their lack of communication and transparency, implying that officials fed him "many little lies" to keep him pacified, making the shock of his exclusion even greater.
Previously, Christiansen was also excluded from the World Cup in Pokljuka, marking a second consecutive weekend away from international competition. He accuses the federation of actively working against him and suggests their actions have negatively affected his mental health, even sharing that he was prescribed sleeping pills due to the anger he felt over this situation.
Despite the setback at the World Cup, Christiansen has decided to participate in a cross-country event at the Scandinavian Cup in Norway instead of attending his home World Cup in Oslo.
In response to his non-selection and the federation's handling of his mental well-being, Christiansen voices concerns about double standards, questioning how the federation could focus so much in recent years on mental health but allow this situation to manifest.
