Biathlon: Røiseland criticizes national team leadership: – Bad for Juni's health
NRK's biathlon expert Marte Olsbu Røiseland believes Juni Arnekleiv should have been spared from competing in the relay on Sunday, claiming it was harmful to her health.
Arnekleiv has been under pressure after a tough start to the winter season due to illness before the start of the season.
As a result of her condition, Norway finished sixth in a relay event in Hochfilzen, which was won by Germany. Røiseland criticized the choice to put Arnekleiv on the first leg, stressing that she has shown signs of fatigue and needed rest.
Sverre Huber Kaas, the national team coach, defended the decision, stating that they needed to utilize Arnekleiv for this relay. Røiseland expressed hope for a thorough discussion after the race regarding Arnekleiv's future participation and whether she should take a break before the next races.
Arnekleiv acknowledged the toll of pushing herself hard while not being in top physical condition, stating the importance of careful planning for her training and competition schedule.
The team will evaluate her progress and potential rest to ensure she returns to her best form for the upcoming events, including January's World Championships.
