It was a nightmare competition for Martin Ponsiluoma. In his first shooting during the mixed relay, he missed five shots in total and went on two penalty laps.
"I feel sorry for him," says SVT’s expert Björn Ferry.
Sunday's competition in Oberhof, Germany, turned into an unpleasant experience for Martin Ponsiluoma. At 29 years old, he was expected to perform well as part of the Swedish mixed relay team after Sebastian Samuelsson, but had a frustrating afternoon.
During the shooting range, he started with four consecutive misses plus an extra shot. As a consequence of this disaster, Ponsiluoma had to take two penalty laps, leaving Sweden severely behind.
"It’s terrible. I feel sorry for him," says SVT’s expert Björn Ferry.
Ponsiluoma himself was critical of his performance, saying, "It’s really disappointing; today was perhaps not perfect."
"It’s a nightmare series. He was making progress, and then this happened, which is incredibly sad," says shooting coach Jean March-Chabloz.
Despite Martin Ponsiluoma's shooting failure, Sweden managed to bounce back and secure victory in the relay event.
