Originally published in SVT Sport on December 22, 2024
Anna Magnusson was in the running for a medal but ended up failing dramatically during the race, missing five shots which led to her finishing in 28th place. She expressed her frustration, stating, "I don't know what happened, but it's really disappointing."
The day ended well for the Germans with Selina Grotian winning her first career World Cup stage in a dramatic finish against countrymate Franziska Preuß, who was the previous day’s winner in the pursuit.
In the women’s mass start on Sunday, Elvira Öberg was the top Swedish competitor, finishing 9th while her teammates struggled to keep pace. Öberg was unable to follow Anamarija Lampic, which indicates she was not at her best during this race. Expert Mona Brorsson noted that something was missing in Öberg's performance compared to previous races.
Swedish results in Sunday’s mass start: - 9) Elvira Öberg 1:19 behind (four misses) - 11) Sara Andersson 1:21 behind (three misses) - 15) Ella Halvarsson 1:32 behind (two misses) - 28) Anna Magnusson 2:43 behind (five misses)
This result adds tension to the upcoming competitions as the team looks to improve for the following events in the season.
