German biathletes under pressure
On Friday, the men's sprint continues in Kontiolathi. Following a disappointing World Cup start, Germany's biathletes are under pressure.
The next biathlon race is on! The men’s 10-kilometer sprint in Kontiolathi, Finland, will take place at 16:20. After a weak start, there’s already a sense of urgency around the German athletes.
"We need to wake up at the shooting range. We know what we can do; we have trained well, but now we need to start implementing that," said DSV sports director Felix Bitterling before the sprint.

The disappointing results from Johannes Kühn, Philipp Nawrath, and others in the individual 15 km race alarmed officials at the German Ski Association (DSV) early in the season. Bitterling said they have had a “clear discussion” with the athletes about this.
A chance for redemption is needed after Nawrath only placed 22nd as the best German athlete on Tuesday, and Kühn finished even lower in 54th place.
Biathlon head coach expresses clear dissatisfaction
Correspondingly, head coach Uros Velepec harshly evaluated his team's performance: "The running performance was not at the highest level, and compared to Norway and France, we are not competitive. If shooting also fails, we have a problem."
It appears that the DSV men were physically not at their peak. Many of his athletes felt "tired," explained Velepec. Therefore, proper recovery before the sprint is essential: "They need to rest; that’s the key."
This season, both ARD and ZDF are broadcasting the biathlon competitions. On Friday, ARD will show the entire race live, starting at 16:10, and Eurosport will also provide a live broadcast.
