Biathlon Legend Debuts with Child
This weekend marks the start of the Biathlon season in Kontiolahti, which is especially significant for Denise Hermann-Wick, who will be making her World Cup debut as a TV expert alongside her daughter.
In the Finnish city of Kontiolahti, the biathlon season kicks off. Former biathlete Denise Hermann-Wick will give her debut as a TV expert. She travels to Finland not alone but with her seven-month-old daughter.
Hermann-Wick shared with Sport Bild: “Of course, this is the longest trip of the season, but we have already tested it a few times.” She added, “So far, flying has been going well. I hope it won’t be stressful for her.”
“Then I Always Have an Excuse”
But they’re not traveling just the two of them: “My husband Thomas is also coming. He will be there for her while I’m on air.” The couple divides their time: “In the evenings and especially at night, I will definitely be there for her. I’ll take the night shifts.”
This arrangement brings considerable stress for the two-time world champion, who works as an expert for the ZDF in biathlon. However, the baby job also allows room for excuses, as Hermann-Wick humorously added: “Then I always have an excuse if I say something silly. The viewers will know: poor thing, she must be struggling through the nights.”
Biathlon: Hermann-Wick Will Speak Freely
One thing is clear: despite the enormous stress and knowing some of the biathletes personally, the 35-year-old former sports soldier intends to always express her honest opinion: “You have to be truthful, you have to be able to look yourself in the mirror, that is to stand behind what you say.”
However, she believes it is inappropriate to target individual athletes: “My approach will not be: find the mistake!”
