A Historic Achievement for the ÖSV Quartet in Biathlon
The Austrian biathlon team made history on the third day of the Junior World Championships in Östersund, Sweden, by winning their first medal in the mixed relay competition. The team, consisting of Fabian Müllauer, Thomas Marchl, Anna Andexer, and Wilma Anhaus, secured a bronze medal, finishing 18.5 seconds behind the winning German team and only 1.6 seconds behind France, who took the silver.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that all four members of the team are part of the Salzburg state skiing association, a first for this discipline.
"It was amazing that we could defend the bronze medal from last year," expressed Anna Andexer, who had previously made waves in the World Championship relay in Lenzerheide just days prior. She excelled at the shooting range, remaining flawless and recording the fastest time in her lap.
Final leg runner Müllauer, who needed just one spare round on the shooting range, executed his final shots under extreme pressure but managed to take home the bronze. "Wilma, Anna, and Tommi set a great foundation, and I felt the pressure to bring it home. I’m really glad that I managed to make that last shot count!"
Müllauer and his teammates celebrated their success, highlighting how much the medal meant for their confidence and future competitions.
"A pure Salzburg team is quite something, I would say!" Müllauer joked during an interview with Krone.
