Biathlon: Hanna Öberg Misses Shots on a Tough Day: "I Don’t Know What Happened"
In Antholz, Hanna Öberg entered the pursuit race with a promising chance but faced a challenging day on the shooting range, ultimately missing five shots and finishing in 19th place.
"I don’t really know what happened and I have no real explanation. It was both high and low, and I couldn't do anything without having had a good zeroing session beforehand. It’s frustrating when you have a good starting position and can't capitalize on it," Öberg told SVT Sport.
She is aiming for a chance at redemption in tomorrow’s relay, hoping for a more favorable outcome. "She has made great progress, and we shouldn't be too hard on her after a weaker race. She doesn’t give up and managed to shoot cleanly in the last round, but of course, we want more," said head coach Johannes Lukas.
Öberg began the race in 11th place, 58 seconds behind the leading Lou Jeanmonnot. After two initial misses in the first prone shooting, she fell back to 18th. In the second prone shooting, she missed two more shots, dropping her to 30th after four total misses.
Experts noted that her performance was not typical for her, as typically she shoots offensively, but something was off today. In the third standing shooting, she missed another round, now in 29th position. However, in her final standing shooting, she hit all her targets and climbed back to 20th.
Anna Magnusson emerged as the top Swedish competitor, finishing 12th with two misses but boasting the ninth-fastest time on the course.
"I am very satisfied with the race and had a good feeling on the track," Magnusson stated after gaining 20 positions.
Jeanmonnot maintained her lead throughout the race, securing the win with only one miss and ensuring a French double victory ahead of teammate Julia Simon, who helped solidify a remarkable day for the French team with four athletes finishing in the top five ranks.
Elvira Öberg did not compete this weekend due to a cold.
