Germany's biathlon sport is looking toward a rosy future. The German relay team wins gold at the junior world championships after a cautious performance.

There have been years when concerns about the German biathlon junior talent were warranted, but following the junior world championships in Östersund, these worries seem almost faded.

On the penultimate day of the championships, the youth relay (ages 2006-2009) claimed gold in the 3x6 kilometers relay. Starting runner Melina Gaupp immediately got into the mix and passed on in third position to Sydney Wüstling, who delivered an outstanding race to bring the DSV trio to the front.

Lena Siegmund, who had already won silver in the mass start the day before, coolly responded to the Norwegian attack and managed to succeed in the crucial standing shooting.

In the end, Germany's victory was never in doubt over Norway (+20.8 seconds) and Italy (+37.3 seconds). Germany has now accumulated two gold and two silver medals, securing their position in third place in the medal tally behind Norway and France.

The junior world championships encompass both the youth (2006-2009) and junior categories (2003-2005). So far, three of the four medals have been awarded in the youth class. However, it should be noted that Germany's showcase youngsters Julia Tannheimer (2005) and Selina Grotian (2004) are already competing among the elite.
