Biathlon: Elvira Öberg Wins Silver – Sweden’s First World Championship Medal

Elvira Öberg took silver in the women’s pursuit (jaktstart) at the Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide, earning Sweden its first medal at this year’s event. Franziska Preuss won gold, carrying the German flag across the finish line, while Öberg engaged in a thrilling sprint battle with Justine Braisaz-Bouchet for the remaining medals.
Although Öberg had a misfire on her fourth shooting series, the error was not enough to cost her the medal. After starting as the tenth shooter, her impressive comeback in the final stages of the race secured her silver – her first individual World Championship medal. “I am super pleased and very happy with this medal,” she said, adding that she had been waiting for this moment and hinted at celebrating with semlor later that evening.
Swedish teammates also competed in the race, with Anna Magnusson finishing seventh, Ella Halvarsson ninth, and Hanna Öberg eleventh. This performance marks a significant achievement for Swedish biathlon on the international stage.
