The young and inexperienced German women's relay team was unable to secure a top position at the Biathlon World Cup in Kontiolahti, Finland. The team, consisting of Johanna Puff, Julia Tannheimer, and Julia Kink, faced significant competition and ultimately finished in seventh place after enduring a tough race.

The victory went to the Swedish team, who excelled in the final stages of the race. German sports director Felix Bitterling acknowledged the challenges faced by the young athletes but remains hopeful for their future potential.

Notably, the previously successful athlete Franziska Preuß had to withdraw shortly before the relay race due to health issues, further complicating the team's chances for success. The team acknowledged that experience is key and expressed optimism that with continuous effort, the young athletes will develop to compete at the highest level.

In contrast, the Swedish team managed a seamless relay, building on their strong lead to clinch the win, capitalizing on the drama that unfolded when France’s final runner Julia Simon had to make a penalty lap. Simon suffered a leg cramp nearing the end of the race, which made for an exciting conclusion as she narrowly retained second place against Norway.

The outcome serves as a learning opportunity for the German squad, highlighting the need for experience in high-pressure competitions at the international level.
