The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced an extension of its partnership with the International Biathlon Union (IBU), ensuring that ARD and ZDF will broadcast all biathlon events live until the conclusion of the 2029/2030 season. This agreement encompasses both the Biathlon World Cup and the World Championships.

This contract extension highlights biathlon's rising popularity as a winter sport in Germany, particularly through platforms such as ARD and the ARD Mediathek. Tom Buhrow, ARD’s Sports Rights Director, expressed excitement about the continuation of this long-term collaboration with both the EBU and the IBU.

Meanwhile, Dr. Norbert Himmler, Director of ZDF, underscored the significance of biathlon within their winter sports programming, naming it a "core offering". He voiced contentment over providing comprehensive coverage of biathlon throughout the decade, both via traditional television and online platforms. The broadcasts will be coordinated by the Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting Service on behalf of ARD.
