Black Veins: Biathlon Pro Reveals Poisoning!

A curious and dangerous incident occurred in Swedish biathlon. Following a blood test, relay Olympic champion Jesper Nelin faced a nasty surprise.

The 32-year-old was preparing for the new World Cup season starting at the end of November but encountered a significant setback during training in the spring. In an interview, Nelin revealed that he had to take a forced break due to severe health issues that arose during an anti-doping measure.

Biathlon Pro Suffers from Blood Poisoning

During a summer training session, the 2018 relay Olympic champion was hospitalized where blood was taken as usual. A few days later, he noticed that the veins in his arm were turning black. Nelin promptly showed his arms to his father, a doctor, who immediately recognized the signs of blood poisoning.

"He gave me antibiotics right away," Nelin told the Swedish media Expressen, highlighting his concerns about his health at that time. "After three days, it subsided, and my arm improved significantly," he added. "I was pretty depressed afterward; at the beginning of summer, I couldn’t train properly," he said in the interview.

Nelin Looks Forward to the New Season

Nelin has since recovered well from the alarming episode. Throughout the summer, he has been gaining momentum, participating in four training camps since May. Recently, he performed excellently at a high-altitude training camp in Font Romeu, where he emerged victorious in an internal competition.

Looking ahead, Nelin is optimistic about the upcoming biathlon season. The athlete, who has been in the World Cup circuit since 2015, aims to replicate his success from last year, where he achieved his first podium in a mass start event at Holmenkollen in Oslo.
