In the sprint competition at Kontiolahti, the Austrian biathlon men's team faced a major disappointment. David Komatz was the best finisher among the team, ending the 10-kilometer race in a disappointing 42nd place, outside the points. Simon Eder, who had previously finished 13th in a longer race, struggled significantly, recording four penalty rounds due to missed shots in the standing position.

Despite completing the race without penalty, Komatz was notably slower on the course. The French biathlete Emilien Jacquelin won the sprint, finishing almost 20 seconds ahead of Sweden's Sebastian Samuelsson and Germany's Philipp Nawrath, who both had a penalty round. Johannes Thingnes Bö was the best performer from Norway, finishing in fifth.

Looking ahead, the Austrian team is set to compete in the upcoming sprint events for both men and women at their home World Cup in Hochfilzen, followed by pursuit and relay competitions over the weekend.
