After the Biathlon World Championships, an intense scandal has erupted in the world of biathlon. Latvian veteran Andrejs Rastorgujevs accused his co-trainer, Ilmars Bricis, of being involved in an attempted ski theft at the edges of the mass start event in Lenzerheide.

According to reports by Latvijas Sabiedriskais medijs, Rastorgujevs discovered the attempted theft and immediately held Bricis responsible. The confrontation escalated into a physical brawl during which Rastorgujevs sustained injuries; he is now under medical evaluation for a possible broken finger and ligament tear.

Bricis, responding to the allegations in interviews with Latvian media, confirmed that an altercation took place but provided a different account of the events. He claimed that after witnessing a hotel staff member in a questionable situation, he was confronted by Rastorgujevs in his hotel room—a room that also contained Bricis’ one-year-old son. The coach's wife commented that the situation was entirely unacceptable, justifying the actions taken to remove the disruptive individual.

Now 36 years old, Rastorgujevs has issued an ultimatum: either Bricis is dismissed from his coaching role or the veteran biathlete will step away from competition. The national biathlon federation has yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
